Motivation

Existing conflicts of objectives within land use as well as changes and expansions of the indicators, linkage and analysis of land use require new solutions. In the project region of Lüneburg, there are interactions and conflicts of interest between different stakeholder groups with regard to the use of land. The handling of the finite resource land therefore represents a significant challenge for the project region. A transdisciplinary team consisting of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the city and district of Lüneburg and the BUND takes on this task.

Goals and approach

The project develops scenarios and options for action with a focus on the UN sustainability development goals. The innovative character of the project results from the combination of quantitative and qualitative data. In addition, economic management measures are not only tested with the aim of efficiently restricting the use of natural resources, but the effects of these instruments on the balance of interests between different groups of actors and different types of regions (urban and rural) are also examined.

Expected results and transfer

In project phase 1, scenarios and options for action are to be developed and the preparation for the implementation of these options in project phase 2 is to take place. The cooperation between university, municipal administration and NGOs will ensure a direct transfer.
